If you’ve ever wandered through the streets of Nantwich on a Thursday or Saturday morning, you’ll know there’s something special about this town. The market is a proper, working local market — one that’s been part of Cheshire life for centuries. And for us at Owl Farm, it’s become the heartbeat of our week.
We’re there every Thursday and Saturday, rain or shine, setting up our stall and bringing you some of the finest heritage breed meat and artisanal deli products you’ll find anywhere in the North West.
What Makes Nantwich Market Worth Your Visit?
Nantwich is one of Cheshire’s most historic market towns — and its market has always been a place where local producers connect directly with the people who eat their food. That’s something supermarkets simply can’t replicate.
When you buy from a market stall, you’re talking to the person who raised the animal, made the sausage, or cured the bacon. You get real answers to real questions. You know exactly where your food comes from.
For shoppers looking for a genuine farm shop experience in Nantwich, the market delivers exactly that — a curated selection of local, seasonal, and ethically produced food from people who care deeply about what they do.
Owl Farm at Nantwich Market
We’re a heritage breed farm based in Crewe, on the edge of the Cheshire countryside. Our 16 acres are home to Large Black pigs, Oxford Sandy & Black pigs (sometimes called “Plum Puddings”), Hebridean sheep, and Hubbard heritage chickens — all raised outdoors, year-round, using farming methods that go back over a century.
We describe what we do as beyond organic. That’s not a marketing phrase — it’s how we actually farm. Our animals roam freely on pasture, they’re never given antibiotics or growth promoters, and we use rotational grazing to improve soil health. We maintain a 5-star food safety rating for both fresh and cooked products.
At our Nantwich Market stall you’ll find:
- Heritage breed pork — dry-cured bacon, sausages, fresh cuts and chops
- Pasture-fed chicken — whole birds, breast supremes, quarters and drumsticks
- Hebridean lamb — a rare and deeply flavourful breed, perfect for slow cooking
- Artisanal deli products — pies, sausage rolls, Scotch pies, and seasonal specials
- The Deli counter — rotating seasonal products including our Crunchy Bacon Butter and Rosemary Salt
Every product on our stall has been raised, processed, and packed on or near the farm — from farrow to finish.
The Heritage Breed Difference
Heritage and rare breed animals take longer to grow and need more land and care than modern commercial breeds. That costs more — but the difference in flavour is extraordinary.
Our Oxford Sandy & Black pigs produce pork with a deep, rich fat marbling that simply doesn’t exist in supermarket pork. Our Large Black pigs are calm, outdoor animals whose slow growth produces naturally flavoured meat that chefs and food lovers travel for. Our Hebridean sheep are a hardy Scottish breed, grazed on Cheshire pasture, producing lamb with a distinctive, slightly gamey flavour profile that pairs beautifully with red currant and root vegetables.
These aren’t breeds you’ll find in a supermarket. They’re part of British agricultural history, and we think they’re worth preserving — one delicious meal at a time.
Why We Love Trading at Nantwich
We’ve traded at markets across Cheshire and beyond, but Nantwich has a particular energy. The customers are knowledgeable, loyal, and genuinely interested in where their food comes from. We regularly have long conversations at the stall about farming methods, breed characteristics, and cooking techniques — and that’s exactly why we do this.
Our 90%+ monthly customer retention at the markets speaks for itself. Once people taste the difference that ethical, heritage breed farming makes, they come back week after week.
We’re at Nantwich Market every Thursday and Saturday. Come and find us, ask us anything about the farm, and take home something genuinely special for your weekend table.
Also Available: Local Delivery and Pre-Order
Can’t make it to the market? We offer local delivery within 8 miles of the farm every Monday and Wednesday — fully ice-packed, with the same product range you’d find on the stall. You can also pre-order specific cuts ahead of market day, which is ideal for larger orders or specific requests.
