How We Answer Questions About Halal & Kosher Slaughter (and What We Do Instead)
We get asked a question regularly, and it’s one I want to answer clearly and respectfully:
“Is your meat Halal or Kosher?” Or sometimes: “Are your animals religiously slaughtered?”
People ask for different reasons — faith, food standards, animal welfare, or simply wanting to understand the process. Whatever the reason, it’s a fair question, and you deserve a straight answer.
The short answer
No — our animals are not slaughtered under Halal or Kosher certification.
Our position (and why)
At Owl Farm, our priority is animal welfare and a calm, low-stress process from farm to finish.
That’s why we choose a method where animals are stunned beyond recovery before slaughter.
We’re not sharing that to provoke debate — just to be transparent about what we do and what we don’t do.
Why we’re writing this
This subject can become heated online, and that helps nobody.
We’re a small farm. We raise animals with care, and we believe customers should be able to ask honest questions and get honest answers — without judgement on either side.
If you keep Halal or Kosher for religious reasons, we respect that. If you’re asking because you’ve heard different things about welfare, we respect that too.
What we can promise
While we don’t offer Halal or Kosher-certified meat, we can promise what we stand for:
- High-welfare husbandry: outdoor-reared heritage breeds, raised with time, space, and proper care
- Low-stress handling: calm stockmanship and sensible transport planning
- A humane end: stunned beyond recovery as part of our welfare-first approach
- Transparency: if you ask us how we do something, we’ll tell you plainly
If you require Halal or Kosher meat
If you need Halal or Kosher-certified meat, we completely understand — but we also want to be honest that we’re not the right supplier for that requirement.
If you’d like, we’re happy to explain our welfare standards and why we’ve chosen the approach we use.
A simple way to ask (and a simple way we’ll answer)
If you’re ever unsure, feel free to message us and ask:
- “Is this Halal or Kosher?”
- “Do you pre-stun?”
And we’ll answer clearly:
- “No, it’s not Halal or Kosher certified.”
- “Yes — our animals are stunned beyond recovery.”
Questions are welcome
Food should come with trust, not confusion.
If you’ve got questions about our farming, welfare, or how we produce our meat, ask us directly. We’ll always do our best to answer with respect and honesty.
